Volunteer FAQs

Who can volunteer/ intern?

Anyone who has the interest, sensitivity and commitment to work for people with neurological conditions and/or the elderly can apply for our volunteering / internship programme. These may include students, professionals or anyone with a passion to serve the elderly and differently abled.

The opportunities offered by us are need-based and pro-bono. If you are selected, your commitment will be at a mutually agreeable time with the PDMDS, based on the organization’s guidelines and regulations. Interested applicants can submit their intent form and we will reach out to you in case of a requirement.

What kind of work is expected from the volunteers / interns?

The opportunities for volunteering and interning at the PDMDS encompass various activities ranging from assisting in support centre activities, awareness services, fundraising campaigns, public relations and communications, administration, exploratory research, special events, photography and audiovisuals, documentation, and other activities, which match mutual interests and needs as will be further discussed with the PDMDS.

Can I volunteer/ intern to fulfil course requirements of my academic course?

Students are welcome to join the PDMDS to fulfil this requirement. The work is decided after mutual agreement with us, matching the interest and need of the organization. You can fill our intent form and also send us a mail on pdmds.india@gmail.com.

Do I need any special training for volunteering/ interning?

You don’t need a scientific or technical background to help towards providing better services to people with Parkinson’s (PwPs). Your personal interest in the cause is what counts.

The PDMDS will provide an orientation to introduce you to your role and the nuances of the condition before you start volunteering/ interning.

What can I expect out of volunteering?

Volunteering at the PDMDS will provide you with a chance to: Learn about Parkinson’s and the work we do

Interact with people with Parkinson’s (PwPs) Get involved in the social cause and assist in making a difference in the lives of the differently abled.

Meet professionals who are motivated to provide better services to PwPs Gain a valuable volunteering and humanitarian experience Certification of volunteering/ internship

As a volunteer, can I work with the patients individually / professionally as a psychologist or physiotherapist?

Our psychologists and physiotherapists work with our beneficiaries. Since our activities and services require specialized training in Parkinson’s care, we do not permit our volunteers or interns to work on a one-on-one basis with our beneficiaries. Our volunteering opportunities are limited to assisting at support centres, awareness and fundraising campaigns, communications, administration and research.
