Yoga for Parkinson’s

In 2004 – 2005, the PDMDS team approached the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute for formulating a Yoga regimen specifically for people with Parkinson’s. Since then, the collaboration between the two organizations has assisted many PwPs discover a new, yet traditional form of science in coping with this condition on a holistic level.

Dr. Rajvi Mehta, along with her team of experts from the Iyengar Yoga institute devised a program, which underwent thorough scrutiny, and her research paper titled “To investigate the effectiveness of Yoga on Parkinson’s” was presented and widely appreciated as one of the five best  papers at the 1st Asian and Oceanic Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorder Congress, Singapore in 2007.

The same program is now held annually, for the benefit of PwPs, at the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute in Lower Parel, Mumbai over a period of 10 days, wherein PwPs are put through a dedicated and rigorous Yoga routine under the constant guidance and supervision of the Iyengar Yoga team.
