The society is ever – emerging and hoping to cross its current boundaries into new and diverse facets. The two main goals for the future are:
- Resource Mobilization
- Building Partnerships
In both these respects, PDMDS is currently working on the development of a capacity – training module, which would be a Multi – Disciplinary Approach to the Management of Parkinson’s. This module would enable PDMDS to provide virtual guidance where it can’t be physically present. Currently, the module is being tested at various locations in Mumbai, Goa, Nasik and Bhavnagar, before being completed for its utilization as a tool for reaching PwPs and caregivers in remote parts of India and other countries.
Once finalised, the capacity training module, would also help us set sail towards our other goal of “Training and Development”. Allied healthcare professionals and others would be provided training by the core team of PDMDS based on this module, which can then assist them in taking a holisitic guidance approach to those in need of management of Parkinson’s.
Moreover, with a concrete structure in place, the scope to develop more publications would increase, which is an additional plan of the society.
Of course, most of the above resource mobilization activities would require mobilization of funds, which becomes a further step to take, through ‘fund – raising activities’.
In the direction of broadening its reach, and to optimize the utilization of the capacity training module, the PDMDS hopes to develop and build partnerships with NGOs and old age homes, the Government and Industrial houses through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These collaborations will provide the Society with a unique but feasible way to reach it goals.
One such current collaboration is between PDMDS and the B.K. Parekh Trust of the Pidilite Group of Industries, India. Our former governing council member, Mr. B.K. Parekh, a visionary par excellence, was afflicted by Parkinson’s himself. In his memory & upon his passing away in 2013, the Parekh and Pidilite group took up the cause which was close to Mr. B.K. Parekh’s heart. Through their CSR program, the collaboration runs the Bhavnagar chapter of PDMDS.
The hope is for this to serve as a paradigm for future such partnerships.
